I made it into the studio

I made it into the studio this weekend and completed two small mixed media pieces. From working on these pieces, I found out I need to go on the hunt for more found objects. It might be time for a trip to some local junk and antique stores. Sounds like a perfect Saturday. I will post pics soon.

Aprons

I have few small pieces in progress and plan to wax them this weekend. Several of the pieces use parts of aprons that I purchased from Goodwill...very 1950/60's. Scale is always an interesting issue......I find myself drawn to a larger scale but also like the portable aspect of small work. I guess the battle of scale rages on. Looking forward to getting out on Saturdays this summer to the local farmers markets and hoping to meet some bee keepers with wax that is unrefined. Golden brown bees wax !

Excited about the Coburn Gallery

I am excited as the time nears for me to become the "official " Director of the Coburn Gallery !
Also thinking about moving my office and the STUFF in my office....heavy art books etc etc Hopefully, I can get some help with the actual moving. Only 2 1/2 weeks away from the deadline for the Ohio All Media Juried Exhibition...... hoping to have a lot of entries ! The photography exhibition in the fall is coming together nicely. Now to make time for my own art !

Several Thoughts

Congrats to Josh for the Drawing Award at the Juried Student Art Exhibition !
CONGRATS to Jennifer and Ashley !

Okay. Glad to see people blogging. Keep it up. Really pick apart your artists and decide why I chose them for you. Be specific.

Spring Break will be interesting. I am off from AU but UAkron is still in session so I teach on MW next week. My grand plan is to spend my extra time in the studio finishing up a pair of mixed media works ( they still need the bees wax layer ) and hopefully start 2 more pieces. HOPE. I need to travel out into the country and take some photographs of barn windows for a work in progress.

As you are out for spring break- I hope you will take time out of your schedule to see some art at a gallery or museum. Don't forget to start gathering materials for upcoming bookmaking project.
( old books, magazines, found objects, printed material , 2-D objects and etc ) BLOG over break when you can.
